Bond energies of molecular fragments to metal surfaces track their bond energies to H atoms.

The bond energy of molecular fragments to metal surfaces is of great fundamental importance, especially for understanding catalytic reactivity. Thus, the energies of adsorbed intermediates are routinely calculated to understand and even predict the activity of catalytic materials. By correlating our recent calorimetry measurements of the adiabatic bond dissociation enthalpies of three oxygen-bo...

Cruciaromaticity in organometallic compounds

A recent suggestion, that transition metal complexes of unsaturated ligands can be regarded as cruciconjugated, is explored by studies of various complexes of Fe(II), the aromaticity of the resulting i systems being analyzed in terms of PMO theory. This approach is also applied to porphyrin. The conclusions are supported by preliminary SCF and MNDO calculations.

METAL-LIGAND MULTIPLE BONDS IN ORGANOMETALLIC COMPLEXES CONTAINING TRIAMIDOAMINE LIGAND SYSTEMS by JOEL

Chapter 1 The synthesis and reactivity of [N3N]Ta=E complexes is presented where E is a la, l or la, 21t donor and [N3N] 3= [(Me3SiNCH 2CH2)3N]. [N3N]Ta=PPh reacts with excess lithium metal in tetrahydrofuran to give "[N3N]Ta=PLi" which reacts with RX at -35 'C to afford the phosphinidene complexes, [N3N]Ta=PR (R = Me, n-Bu, SiMe3 , SiMe2Ph). [N3N]TaCl 2 reacts with two equivalents of LiN(H)R (...

Metal–carbon bond energies for adsorbed hydrocarbons from calorimetric data

Single crystal adsorption calorimetry (SCAC) is a powerful new method for measuring adsorption and reaction energies. Particularly for hydrocarbons, where little or no information is available from either experiment or theory on welldefined surfaces, this method can provide crucially needed information. Assignment of the measured calorimetric heats to the appropriate surface reaction yields dir...

Free energies of ligand binding for structurally diverse compounds.

The one-step perturbation approach is an efficient means to calculate many relative free energies from a common reference compound. Combining lessons learned in previous studies, an application of the method is presented that allows for the calculation of relative binding free energies for structurally rather diverse compounds from only a few simulations. Based on the well known statistical-mec...
